Duties & Responsibilities

Being employed with Huntsville Fire & Rescue is more than responding to emergency calls. The role also requires in-house duties and responsibilities that allow us to do our jobs effectively and ensure each team member’s health and safety. Listed below are some of the duties and responsibilities in place to fulfill this purpose:

  • Upkeep and maintain all personal protective clothing
  • Perform fire station cleaning and maintenance
  • Maintain fire trucks and equipment

After successfully completing a total of 960 initial training hours, all firefighters are required to maintain:

  • Minimum of 222 fire suppression hours annually
  • Minimum of 20 EMS hours annually
  • Minimum of 6 HAZMAT hours annually
  • Other certifications that give us the confidence to handle all situations. Hours are subject to change based on team assignment, division and current position in the department.
